🍂 A Heart for Peace: Sunday Reflection

As the morning air turns crisp and the leaves begin to turn gold and amber, we find ourselves in the Season of Creation—a sacred time when churches worldwide pause to celebrate and protect God's living earth.

​Today is also Peace Sunday, aligning closely with the United Nations Day of Peace on 21 September. A group called the Fellowship of Reconciliation helps lead this day. They are Christians who believe Jesus calls us to love all people and protect creation rather than harm it.

​"Reconcile" is a big word. It means to heal a breach and become friends again after a fight—to restore harmony where there has been division.

​Paul wrote about this in the Bible. He reminds us that God's plan is to bring peace through Jesus, restoring right relationships not just among humanity, but across the entire web of life.

​He decided that Christ would die on the cross as a sacrifice. In that way, God would bring all things back to himself. Then everything could live in peace with God. That includes everything on the earth and everything in heaven.

(Colossians 1:20)


​Human conflict does not just hurt people; it scars the land, poisons the waters, and disrupts the creatures sharing our common home. True peace brings healing to the soil, the rivers, and every living thing.

​The prophet Isaiah envisioned a restored creation—a peaceful kingdom where violence is gone and God's presence fills the earth like water filling the sea.

​Nothing will hurt or destroy anything else anywhere on my holy mountain. Instead, people will know the LORD all over the earth, as water fills the whole sea.

(Isaiah 11:9)


​A heart for peace reaches out with kindness to our neighbors and walks gently upon the earth, honoring the Creator by caring for creation.

​As the autumn wind rustles through the changing trees this week, consider these reflections:

  • ​Is there someone I need to be reconciled with and become friends with again?
  • ​Can I be gentle today, choosing understanding over winning?
  • ​Can I step outside into the autumn air, listen to the wind and birds, and breathe slowly in gratitude for God's creation?

​God gives us a peace as steady as the changing seasons. We are invited to receive it and live it out.

​🌾 Prayer

​God of peace and Creator of all,

give us hearts that make friends again and heal old divisions.

Help us not to hurt other people.

Help us to look after your world—tending the land, waters, and creatures in our care as the seasons turn.

Grant us your peace.

Amen.

Day 1 – Walk for Autism 2026: Let's Go! 👟♾️

Today is officially Day 1 of the Walk for Autism challenge, and my legs are already warmed up — because I haven't exactly been waiting around! Over the past couple of months I've been quietly clocking up steps ahead of this week, so by the time the official 8-day challenge kicked off this morning (26th March – 2nd April), I'd already built up a bit of momentum. The goal is 10,000 steps a day, every day, raising money for Autism Initiatives — and I'm going into it with a decent head start on the 80,000-step target. If you've seen my fundraiser page, you'll already know why this cause sits so close to my heart. ​For a long time, I tried to fit into spaces that weren't built for me. My Personal Challenge for the Bronze Award is in part a commitment to stop masking and start seeking. ​By attending Dad & Me, I am seeking the community help I need to be a regulated parent (it is the February break in Midlothian and Solomon was a bit poorly so we did skip a week). By searching for an ASN-friendly church, I am seeking the spiritual help I need to practice my faith without burnout. This week we went local.
