Weekly Evidence - week 18 (Mencap Gateway Bronze) and Prescribe Nature - week 4
This week has been all about balance—nurturing my body, mind, and spirit while staying true to my advocacy work and family routines. Here is a breakdown of my activities and evidence for Week 18:
1. Volunteering
- Activity: Walk for Autism
- Status: ✅ Completed previously.
- Medal and Certificate: Received this week.
2. Fitness & Nature
- Activity: Nature Walk & Prescribe Nature Course
- This week, I embraced the outdoors by attending Week 4 of the Prescribe Nature programme at Newbattle Abbey College. The outdoors continues to be a massive source of healing, grounding, and joy for me.Set up tents using pegs we made last week. Had a cuppa in the woods at a new location. Found some leafy specimens someone had collected. Found Badger claw marks. Explored the Badger sets and set up a trail camera. Did some nature art using clay since this week's theme was earth and soil. Looked at how wood biodegrades and becomes soil or habitats for other things and how branches can be good nests for nature.
- 3. Hobby & Faith
- Activity: Continued exploring prayer and ministry.
- In tandem with this practice, we also tried a new church this week. We are still very much on the journey to finding a permanent spiritual home that truly embraces and accommodates our family’s complex needs, but every step forward is progress.
4. Personal Challenge
- Status: ✅ Previously submitted.
5. Lifestyle (Sensory, Wellbeing & Advocacy)
This category covers the vital, everyday routines that keep myself and my family regulated and supported:
- Self-Regulation: I am continuing to use the Finch app to maintain consistency, alongside Squiggle Society and art supplies, fidgets, and planned sensory snacks.
- Wellbeing: I officially finished my Health in Mind sessions this week with a final feedback phone call. I am incredibly grateful for the tools and support I’ve gained through this programme.
Reflection:
Small steps and consistent routines are making a massive difference. Whether it is exploring nature, exploring faith, or connecting with community support, this week proved that taking things one day at a time truly builds a solid foundation.
