A Christmas Journey through the Quaker Peace Testimony

The Christmas Promise

“Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.”

Dear God,

Long ago, the prophets promised

That a Day of Peace would come.

On this Christmas Day,

Help us to be the ones

Who put our toy swords away

And pick up the tools of love.

Amen.

The Gift of Gentle Hands

“We utterly deny all outward wars and strife and fightings with outward weapons.”

Dear Jesus,

When You were born in the hay,

You didn't come with a crown of gold

Or a sword for a king.

You came with tiny, open hands.

Help my hands to be like Yours—

Gentle to my friends,

Kind to creation,

And always ready to help.

Amen.

The Light Inside

“The spirit of Christ will never move us to fight.”

Dear Father,

You put a little Light inside of me.

That Light tells me to be brave

Without being mean.

That Light tells me to be strong

Without being a bully.

When I feel angry or upset,

Help me listen to the quiet Peace

You tucked inside my heart.

Amen.

Turning Swords into Seeds

“Our swords are broken into ploughshares and spears into pruning hooks.”

Dear God,

It is Christmas time!

Instead of fighting over toys,

Help us share our joy.

Let us take our "grumpy words"

And turn them into "kind words."

Let us take our "angry fists"

And turn them into "helping hands."

Let’s plant seeds of friendship today.

Amen.

The Brave Choice

“We have wronged no man... When we have been wronged, we have not sought to revenge ourselves.”

Dear Jesus,

Sometimes it is hard to be peaceful

When people are not peaceful to me.

But You taught us to say, “I forgive you.”

Giving love is the bravest thing I can do.

Help me be a Peace-Maker,

Even when it’s a big, tough job.

Amen.

A Christmas Wish for the World

“Do unto all men as you would have them do unto you.”

Dear God,

Please bless every child in every land.

May the whole world become

One big, happy family.

No more fighting, no more hurting,

Just Your love shining bright

Like the Star over the stable.

Amen.

A Note for Parents & Teachers

The Quaker Peace Testimony was written by George Fox and others in 1660. It tells the world that followers of Jesus don't need weapons because they have the "Spirit of Christ" leading them toward love and unity. This Christmas, we remember that the baby in the manger grew up to teach us that the most powerful force in the world isn't a sword—it’s Love.
