I am Autistic, I am not a stereotype!

I am not a stereotype.

I am Autistic. 
Yes, I am white male. 
But, not that young anymore, so not fully fitting the media stereotype. 

I am also not a Savant. 
I have key interests and areas I am good at. 

I prefer saying Type 1 to Aspergers (in light of revelations about Hans Aspergers work with the Nazis who are the opposite of all I believe in).

No, I do not have any particular known additional learning disabilities.

I am Socially Anxious and a shy Introvert.

I am not a superhero, although I do follow one!

I am not the result of vaccines or refrigerator parenting.

I am not void of empathy.
I am a highly sensitive empath who cares deeply for a fallen world.

I am a bit quirky and a gentle soul.
I am who I am.

I am Autistic.
I am not a stereotype.

Follower of Jesus, non-conformist, preacher, poet, blogger, graduate of Highland Theological College, Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Friend, Learning Assistant (ASN) Outdoors. Late diagnosed Autistic.

Fire or Love

When we are told about collateral damage, acceptable losses, friendly fire, lifes of diminished value as human shields, or some other excuse for bombings never forget God even in Old Testament anger is far, far more merciful. Further more all followers of Jesus are rebuked by Him if they call down fire on enemies. Surely this includes both the desire for cosmic vengeance and the desire to drop bombs on the children of your enemies. Gathering of light. Sacred assembly of love. Age of war, hate, and strife. The day of the martyrs has just begun. Blood stained standing stones. Anabaptists tears, angels song. The day of the martyrs has just begun. Ice cracks, foe falls. Pilgrim saves. To burning he must go. Stands fast, dies slow, proclaims love for all to know. The day of the martyrs has just begun. *** Published in the anthology Poetic Velocity. This poem reflects on the powerful faith and love of many Christian martyrs. The main one is the story of Dirk Willems who was an Anabaptist Christian martyr. He was being hunted for his faith and he turned back to save his enemy when his enemy fell through some ice. Dirk was burnt at the stake for his faith despite his merciful gesture. He entered heaven with a clean conscience.

A short devotion for today: The Light

"The light shines in the dark, and the dark cannot put out the light." (John 1:5 Easy English Bible) In the cross reference and notes of the Easy English Bible it says "The Word (Jesus Christ) is like light. He shows us what is true. The dark means the power of God's enemy, Satan. Satan tries to hide what is true. God's light shines in the dark places and Satan cannot stop that light. Jesus said that he himself was the light of the world." It suggests two other verses:  [1] John 8:12 - "Jesus spoke to the people again. He said, ‘I am the light of the world. a. Those people who become my disciples will never walk in the dark. No, they will have the light that gives life.’" (a. Jesus said that he was the light of the world. The Jews lit a special light in the temple during the Festival of Tabernacles.) Meet Kev the calming Koala

Meet Kev. He is my new friend. Yes, I know I'm a grown man. This neither fits with matcho toxic masculinity, nor being a supposed adult. Frankly I'm past caring, also who wants to be toxic. Even though I have long been an adult I still love a good soft toy. I still have a wee dog from when I was a baby tucked away somewhere. In fact my wife and I had a proverbial army of soft toys even before baby number one came along. I do remember getting harshly judged for it in my lonely single days. But, it came as no surprise to me that there can be a connection to autism and seeking some kind of sensory, non-human, comfort in this way. In fact I was delighted when a suggestion came from somewhere or other, probably online, that getting a weighted soft toy as a freshly diagnosed autistic adult was in fact a good idea. Still Waters

One of my favourite verses of recent years has been "Be Still and Know that I Am God." Although it doesn't specifically mention silence, I sense that it may be implied. How can we hear from God if we never close our mouths, if we never close out the noise of life, if we never even Sabbath for a few minutes?   We used to joke that lockdowns were a bit like a month of Sabbaths (more like years!). However, home life is not very silent in general, let alone when it was lockdowns. I would not change that for the world. I love my wee family, and they deserve a father or husband who gives them good attention. There is also now a demand for TV from our kids (which, as Wilkerson put, it can seem like a sewer running through your living room, I wonder what that makes smart phones for us adults!) Written in the depth of the Pandemic: "I am essential!"    The preacher roars in his hundred dollar suit.  His hundreds strong holy huddle of pew warmers burst into an applause of rapture as they prepare for the second offering.  The TV channel switches to pre-recorded "Tele-Evangelist mode".  The cheers echoe through the giant money making machine.  Like an idol his image flashes across giant screens in the auditorium.    As he speaks he suddenly remembers his brother across town.    In an old tin tabernacle the gentle shepherd speaks to his flock.  "I am not essential... Except the Lord builds the house the builders build in vain."  He says this while ministering in a soup kitchen as he serves the needy.  Later that day he plans to do food drops and work in a care home.  At evening prayers his prayer would be as he helped refugees at the docks and prisoners in the cells.  Then at night he would minister on the streets as a practical pastor to the needy a

Non-violent and Radical

Despite the fact that Christianity initially was a non-violent radical movement of God's people, many today who claim to be of Christ seem to see war as needed and even God ordained. Such blasphemy is hardly new. Since the days of Constantine (I) when the State and the Church made an unholy alliance, the deception of redemptive warfare has been clung to like a life belt. Yet, ever since the time of Jesus the Messiah and prophets before Him many radicals (often persecuted and outcast) have questioned the morality of war. Now in the 21st century generations are also rising up against the war machine among both the secular and spiritual sector of society. They recognise that war is for power, economy and pride, not justice or peace. Long may these voices in the wilderness be heard, as they prepare the way for the Lord, who when he comes again will be the undoing of evil and the establiaher of a kingdom not of this world that will live in peace forever!!!
