He will proclaim peace to the nations!

Shout for joy, O daughter Jerusalem!
Behold: your king is coming to you,
    a just savior is he,
Humble, and riding on a donkey,
    on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
He shall banish the chariot from Ephraim,
    and the horse from Jerusalem;
The warrior’s bow will be banished,
    and he will proclaim peace to the nations.
His dominion will be from sea to sea,
    and from the River to the ends of the earth.
(Zechariah 9:9-10 NAB)

The first part of the prophesy seems a distant memory of Jesus entering Jerusalem with His nonviolent underground group of followers. (cf. Luke 19:28-21:36) The second part seems a hard to see future event when war shall be no more for in meekness our king has conquered evil. The sword shall not devour forever! The peaceable kingdom will be from sea to sea, from the Euphrates to the ends of the earth. Is this not a more beautiful end time vision than much of the dystopian ones people try to force into completion these days? There may very well be darkness and birth pains. Gladly the light still shines in the darkness and though weeping endures for a night joy comes in the morning. His kingdom come! Amen.

“Blessed is the king
    who comes in the name of the Lord.
Peace in heaven
    and glory in the highest.”
(Luke 19:38 NAB)
